The blank canvas for the build - previously a raised bed, prior to that a pond! Attachments:

2 tons of concrete delivered from Lympsham concrete - strange how when you shift the heavy messy stuff and fill in a hole it almost doesn't look like you've done anything! Attachments:

4th may - concrete cured, blocks delivered and one of the black & white inspectors already looking at the layout. Shape is complicated by the patio wall not being at right angles and that this is pretty much being built freehand by a non-builder Attachments:

Hi - I'm near J22 of the M5 not far from Burnham-on-Sea, so not far at all. There'll be more posts later today - we're quite a way along with the build but I've only just got round to posting the pics

looks nice, I wish my oven had a wall like that behind it! I did a BBQ/pompeii combo too One thing which is good to consider now is drainage from the rear - as there is a wall there you'll need to incorporate a reasonable fall on the slab finish to try and persuade the rain not to soak in to your insulated base, I tried to cast a slight fall on my main slab but still get a little bit of pooling here and there, mainly due to wonky tiling! Of course, if you're going to build and enclosure you can ignore everything I said

This will be somewhat of an accelerated illustration of progress as we're now at the stage of drying fires this weekend - I've just been lazy in getting round to doing the blog

So having been bold and laid out the outline, it's just raising the levels to make thee bases for the oven and bbq. I would now add a major health warning as to the accuracy and finish on this build. I'm a desk worker who has never done anything like this before - it may be rustic compared to some of the really neat accurate builds I've seen. Attachments:

The black & white inspectors are back - you can see how this is growing. Next stage is more complicated to get some shape to the bbq & oven spaces Attachments:

This is where I attempted my first arch build with a polystyrene form so that you can get a decent support that's removable. Learning later in the build, I should have cut the first curve brick rather than try and do the curve all the way - you'll see what I mean in the future pics, but as I've said earlier - learning experience Attachments:
