Good to see another Wiltshire oven... A couple of years now since I completed mine... Don't worry about your roof temps as there's a lot of moisture trapped in structure. In a few fires time all will be well. Great build and well done for immortalising it on Terry's great forum.

Hi Doc - wondered if you could help me out with the curing process. I am trying to figure out if i have enough time to add the layer or vermicrete and k - rend and have enough curing under my belt to fire up for a pizza party by 28th June? Your thoughts would be great. I can see you were curing prior to the devils porridge going on, and then continued after. How do the timnigs work with adding the K-rend? did you wait a couple of weeks before adding that? Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks, and happy eating

Delaine,
I started the small curing fires when the initial brick dome mortar was dry, a few days. Then the first vermicrete layer went on and again waited a few days until the surface had a crust and dry to the touch before more small fires. Again with the second vermicrete layer. To be honest the K-rend is purely cosmetic and a waterproofer and not required for the oven to function. I waited a week before adding my first layer of K-rend and the next day the second coat. My build during May was hampered by the wet weather which restricted the build but if you get a few good weeks weather wise all should be fine.
I would say if you manage to get the vermicrete layer on at least a week before the party you should be okay. It is very tempting to keep loading wood into the oven but if you can resist until that last week and then get a few good long fires going before D-Day.
Hope that helps
Pete
