The opening height of the oven door should be around 63% of the internal dome height, yours is way out. The width is not so important although yours is more than half the width of the oven diameter. The larger the oven mouth the better the access but also the greater the heat loss. I suggest you download the free Forno Bravo Pompeii oven plans. It will give you the information needed to creat the entry. Many builders make the entry way deeper than necessary leaving you with a long tunnel to have to work past, really annoying. You can make it quite shallow to improve this by placing it well inside the oven perimeter.

Hi downunderdave so are you saying the height should be 315mm high internal on the door opening which is 63% of the height of 500mm and the width should then be 500mm see attached photo. I can bring the door opening width to 500mm my concern is the height looking into oven and working the fire and food.I am asking as I have not built any thing like this and I would like to have it right. thanks again for feed back. When you actually build the arch, make sure that you put some wedges under the form so it will drop a little to make removal easier without stressing the newly built arch.

Brick dust is just ground up clay and will be ok in your mortar; it's a bit of a concern that you're making so much as breathing it in is not wise.

Am cutting the bricks wet and it is what left on the dust sheet,so at the end of the day when I clean up it is just what is left on the sheet which has dried out which is then bagged thanks for your concern. I do use a very good full face dust mask when cutting and tidying up.
