Hi everyone new to the forum and wanted to post my progress so far I started the build 4 weeks ago. I have been following a set of plans I got from forno bravo for a 36inch oven all has goon well so far I have finished the Base and am now about to bite the bullet and spend around £600 on fire bricks and fire cement and ceramic fiber insulation

My order from kiln linings will be with me on friday:) any advice on laying the insulation board and starting the dome would be very much appreciated

Tim, the best advice I can give would be to read a few build threads similar to what you intend; the search function will throw up something if you search Pompeii & done.

I would also recommend reading/looking at other builds that is what i did then use all the bits you think will work for you.

Cheers for the advice guys. But I can't seem to find anywhere what angle to set the bricks at to determine the height of the dome:(

Generally dome height is half diameter, if you make an indispensable tool that will lead the way the bricks are laid a simple bit of wood and a hinge worked for me.

As above, aim for the dome height to be half the diameter, one way of ensuring this is to use an indespensible tool as described above but you can make a temporary former (half circle) from plywood or cardboard which works as well. I started by using wooden wedges but ended up just going by eye, and the results were perfectly acceptable. My build thread is below for info.

Has anyone mixed the fire cement from kiln linings? It says on the website just add water is this right

Tim, your build is progressing well. Can I ask - how did you cut the insulation board? Did you use cement to bond it to the concrete?
