You appear to be using an IT so you'll probably get several more layers if you leave the brick supported by the IT until it grabs.
ps - try to avoid joints above joints, not easy I know but offset joints will be less prone to cracking.

Hey there I ve just caught up with your thread great start as olbertone said keep an eye on them internal joints it's so easy to just look at the back and forget about the inside. As for your cracking issue I saw your pics in the other thread I didn't use homebrew but it looks like you are trying to render your dome at the same time as laying brick also is your sand from wickes by any chance? It looks very dry proberbly aidding in the cracking along with the thick amount you are spreading on the outside all this is fine but you need to keep it moist and wrap in cling film to trap the moister or it will just crack away. Not an important part of the oven to say the least but you don't really want cracked mortar connected to your brick laying structure.or just don't bother with thick coat on the bricks that could be done at the end in one and then wrapped as a whole if it's more mass you are going for it will need wrapping for at least a week hope this helps you I know how these little things can cause major headaches
