Uncle, I know exactly how you feel, you put a lot of effort and passion into building and doubts creep in. You've got a very decent dome there and I wouldn't worry. It'll work extremely well. Remember people cook perfectly well in Barrel/ Vault ovens that are nowhere near dome shaped. RD

Thanks Rokdok. I also just noticed the line of aligned bricks five rows long towards the left where they have co-incidentally just lined up rather than straddling each other. Bit annoyed about that as I thought I was being careful to avoid that happening.

Quick question. Trying to do my chimney vent and opening today but started to think I am better doing it once I have my chimney. Any suggestions on diameter and where to source one? My oven is 43 inch internal diameter so thinking an 8inch chimney? Any thoughts and recommendations? Cheers

Hi buhna what type off finish are going for on your oven is the chimney going to a stack of brick ? I'm thinking of using a 8 " clay chimney pipe inside brick work maybe just a foot or so of the pipe sticking out the top they come in various lengths and can be mortared on top of each other

Hi Lee, I was thinking more of a black pipe sticking out about 1m from the top of the vent. Might put some brick around the entrance but undecided yet.

Cheers G'day Dome lookn good wouldn't worry that is not as pretty as you had hoped but it will be as strong as the next dome, and a domes one of the strongest structures on the planet along with the arch and of course you've got one of those as well. Go with the 8 in pipe you'll need about 15 per cent of the area of you door opening. Just as important you'll need a smoke box above the entrance to funnel that smoke in the chimney proper , otherwise it will bypass that pipe. Again well done Regards dave

Hi dave, by a smoke box do you mean a stack of brick above the vent in the arch maybe tapered on the inside ?

With you too now. Managed to get a used 20cm x 1.2m steel chimney today from a local fire supplies place for just £40. Looks massive but will be able to cut it down once fitted if too big. Give me something to work to. Will probably cut a circle out of fire bricks, slot it in and secure with fire cement.
