Marudge Normally if someone posts a pic too large....or too small...or upsidedown etc.....I change the pic to a link....the re-instate as a full picture (within our forums format). I tried to do this with your pics...but somehow it won't work....whoops. Sorry. Could you please re-post the pics with smaller pixels...or just post the image url to all images so I can re-post them at the correct size. If you just post the "image url" I can re-instate them at the correct size ....in your original post and then delete my message/post. Terry p.s...I feel a bit of a twat as those pics were really informative in a crucial stage of the oven build.....sorry Marudge. Hi Terry Apologies - forgot to reduce the size. I have had some fund as the 'Edit' function on the Google+ web album which I use to reduce the size has disappeared! I have put them in as 'small' as it is the only other size I can do. Hope that's okay. Thanks Mark

I'm going for the final render coat this weekend and just wanted to check I had the right mix.
For the scratch coat I was going to go 8:1:1 mix of sand, hydrated lime and cement with an addition of waterproofer. Probably about 3/4" thick.
For the final coat I was going to go for the same mix but with the addition of a plasticiser. Probably about 1/2" thick.
Does that sound about right?
Thanks
Mark

Should be fine Mark, Terry advocated the mix ratios but just remember to mix 50:50 washed Sharp and Soft sand, or get ready mixed "plastering sand". You won't need much plasticiser in your top coat, check the back of the tub for measurements, likewise with the waterproofer. Have a bucket of water, sponge, old 2" paintbrush and if you have one a hand pump spray bottle handy. I find these invaluable when both plastering and rendering. Good luck! Although i doubt you'll need that! Have a good weekend.

Scratch coat and final render done at last! Yahoo! Thanks for the advice bookemdanno - the 50:50 mix made a lot of diffrerence - it goes rock hard! :-) Guess I can start some serious cooking now! My next challenge is a concrete countertop - any advice on that appreciated as I can't find much in the UK about them. Thank you again Terry et al and all forum contributors for helping me get through the build. Very challenging but also very rewarding - I have learnt a lot of new skills! :-)

Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark!!!! Fantastic! What a cracking form you've managed!! That front on shot, just looks amazing!!! Concrete countertops... Duncan M's Barrel Vault Build might be a good start. Cheers, Dan. Very well done, i'm just buzzing, so you must be so chuffed.

Hi where do I get the firebricks from in Cornwall ! for the walls and the floor ? Hi Alan Sorry for dealy - not been on the forum for a while! I purchased all my bricks online, however when I needed a few extra to finish I did manage to get some from the local Bradfords Branch. They were expensive but I only needed a few. Best of luck with your build - it is very rewarding! Regards Mark

Superb example! No doubt about that! It would be very useful if you could advise what your dimension ended up as, I'm particularly interested in the width and height of your dome.

Amazing build! Your bricks appear to have been cut to a perfect size. What dimensions did you cut them to?

We would like to thank you again for the stunning ideas you offered Jesse when preparing her post-graduate research in addition to, most importantly, with regard to providing the many ideas in one blog post. In case we had been aware of your blog a year ago, we may have been rescued from the pointless measures we were selecting. Thank you very much. adults toys
