order just gone in today for collection next week
180 3" fire brick 6m of 1" fire blanket for insulation 25kg fire clay
Picking up 18 insulating blocks today to lay onto of slab for insulating the oven floor.
getting angle steel also so i can bring all bbq and oven bricks up to final height. that way bbq be built and useable also.
have to see if the premixed bags of mortar i have are useable fore bonding bricks or if i need mix up my own.
trying reduce costa as much as i can and use materials i have. but with tapered bricks not going fit neatly and cant spin them around i will pay the extra 50 euro and gett 180 bricks and store my free tapered bricks for my next oven

looking very good, I like the detail with the raised fence behind the build. for the mortar most folks make their own home brew mix, which is cement : lime : fire clay : sand 1 : 1 : 1 : 3 so if you know the mix in your bag you can just pad it out with fireclay and lime, if that throws the mix off the ratio too far you could top up with a little of either sand or cement, the key I suppose is to know the rough mix in the bag but I do not see why you cannot add it into the pot. Waste is expensive and not very green so its an all round win to use what you have

well i need do a test run of the mix i have as there is no ration let alone any writing on it. just brown bag with name and what looks ber perlite or something in it.
i take it i just bed the breeze blocks in standard mortar with no joins between them just layer under them
high fence was after taugth as dog was jumping on top and over the fence. then in next door to shite on her pride and joy of a garden

had to go recheck levels today, luckily they are correct, the picturers were taken wonky as they all look like sloping down towards the right

its amazing how photos can play tricks on you.

HI John
The insulation blocks can be laid with normal mortar. The heat wont penetrate the underside of these blocks. I also just but them up to each other...as I do with the fire-brick hearth. The bags with no writing on sounds to me like powdered fire-clay. This is used as Turkey has mentioned when fire-bricks are laid. The FB forum Guru's go with a ratio of 1:1:1:3......as Turkey. I stretch that to 1:1:1:4 simply because if the sand is too fine I personally believe the sand ratio should be "upped" a little....the finer the sand is.
Great progress.....and I hope you're getting the same weather as us in S.Wales at the moment #Tshirtweather
